oh hooray for Labor I don't think

Here's the new ALP National policy on same-sex relationship recognition.

Chapter 13 new paragraph after 17

Labor will ensure that all couples who have a mutual commitment to a shared life do not suffer discrimination because they are not married.

Labor will take action to ensure the development of nationally consistent, state-based relationship recognition legislation that will include the opportunity for couples who have a mutual commitment to a shared life to have those relationships registered and certified.

This legislation will:
- be based on the scheme that has existed in Tasmania since 2004 and that the Victorian Government has announced its intention to introduce;
- not create schemes that mimic marriage or undermine existing laws that define marriage as being between a man and a woman

****
State based laws? Still can't leave my super to LG. Can't co-adopt. LG can't get dependent spouse rebate if she is supporting me & kid.
And heaven forbid we undermine the very fabric of society by getting married.
I'm not going get on my hobbyhorse again. It's just such an obvious sop to the rednecks and right wing Christians I can't believe anyone falls for it.

At least I'm not at risk of losing the single parents' pension ('cause, you know, I'm single). I will collect it with pride and a clear sense of entitlement.

I like "mimic marriage" the best. I want to write more, but there's so much to say about it, I just don't know where to start.
