Happy!

Okay so I got carried away on Facebook and started googling old girlfriends. Most of them I couldn't find. Clearly they have faded into oblivion. But one, let's call her Diana, wasn't even a girlfriend really. She was an affair. It was during that non-monogamous phase we all went through back then. Monogamy was a patriarchal concept designed to restrict the free expression of sexuality and affection and also a heterosexist necessity in order for men to maintain control of their wives and ensure reproduction of their seed etc etc etc and we were so beyond petty jealousies and completely able to maintain a 'primary relationship' and any number of dalliances without any emotional fallout whatsoever.

Back to Diana. Impossibly thin, impossibly gorgeous, impossibly already taken by the much-higher-social status, ever so cool C, who was 1. a doctor and 2. a prominent figure in the local S&M scene. What I was doing having an affair with her girlfriend I'll never know. She was so cool she went to the gym. They had tattoos and n*pple rings.

Actually, Diana wasn't C's girlfriend, C had a girlfriend whom we shall call J. Diana was C's nod to her own non-monogamous identity.

I SO had the hots for her. I used to catch the train to...well it was the country anyhow. The line probably doesn't even exist anymore.

So I googled Diana. She's still with C. They breed and show dogs and live in Gippsland.

I'm so happy about that.

Maybe they'll google me and find I'm making a documentary. But probably they've not given me another thought, since, oh, 1992.

(sorry about all the italics. It seemed to require greater than usual emphasis)

I didn't realise your were non-monogomous for all those political and social reasons, I just thought you liked it!

Oh, no, you don't do anything because you like it! You're a lesbian to confront the heterosexist hegemony, you have sex with lots of people to subvert the dominant paradigm, and you party at Midsumma and Mardi Gras to maintain our presence in the ongoing struggle against homophobia. I'm not doing any of this for fun!

Love the well disguised identities there! God, breeding and showing dogs. Who would have thought, but always knew they were more show than go! Forgot that the reason for all the no-monogomy was so political, I thought we did it cos it was fun before the fall out!
