It's been raining for days.
Rainy days are hard work. Hopefully in another year they'll be old enough to be diverted by things like fingerpainting, and cooking, and cut-and-pasting, and building forts out of two coffee tables, a sofa and a few blankets. And videos! Lots and lots of loooooong videos.
We've been to the museum. We've been to all the libraries. We've been to the art gallery. We've been to the highly expensive hell that is an indoor playland.
Today, we spent the afternoon in the undercover play area at M*cD0n*lds.
Actually it wasn't so bad. The play equipment is incredibly safe (covering every liability possibility) and the afternoon only cost $4 for a coffee and a McSc0ne. Scary. First we discovered C0ffee C1ub (lots of high chairs, lots of space for prams, lots of other parents there so no disapproving looks from exasperated, sophisticated cafe goers) and now M*cca's.
Is there any further to fall?

Cheap is good.
Long walks either in the stroller or with kids toddling along worked for both of mine, still do. Now June likes to ride her trike along the sidewalk. This can kill a lot of time.
Mommy & Me types classes, too, if you don't mind spending the money. I held out for a while with these, but June's been in Kindermusik about a year and loves it.
It's a sad day when you realise that Maccas is very useful. That moment came for us when we were travelling between Albury-Widonga with a 1 year old baby, and we needed a place to stop where I could feed her, and we could get a coffee, and something to eat. Maccas was clean, the coffee was adequate, there was plenty of space, our baby was welcome, the food was fast. Just a shame about the taste, really.
Mummy & me classes have always felt a bit too hard, with two babies, (eg couldn't manage swimming, or yoga, or gymboree) but now they are older I reckon music or Italian (or French?) could be the go.
Kelly and Sam I wish you twins in this round of conception adventures! Then you will be laughing on the other side of your faces!
Yes, what DO they do to the food to make it taste like that? On second thoughts, I don't want to know - but what market research indicated that that is what people WANT? But scarily, I can see why $1.95 burgers are appealing...

Now that Mc D's use Fairtrade coffee can we feel less guilty about occasionally popping in? I mean if it's helping indigenous South Americans...
Have you been to Tiny Tots at Lang Park PCYC? Y goes there with the boy and it is apparently excellent; a bit like playgroup but better/bigger and lots of safe playmats. Am not promising it won't be hell (it is mayhem apparently) but perhaps worth a go, and cheaper than a gymboree type-place. L loves it. BTW we have also been to McD's once... and there's something strangely delicious about the food to me (love those pickles! love 'em), I think it harks back to my childhood when it was forbidden, thereby making it the most attractive food EVER.
