Take a moment to think before you speak

<--Javd (not our dog...we are dogless since Bear moved to Darwin and Thelma moved to the great doghouse in the sky)

Some things not to say when you come across someone who's just had a miscarriage

  • You career girls, you think you can have a house and a good job and then get pregnant whenever you feel like it. It's not that easy, you know.
  • You weren't pregnant for very long...you could just pretend you weren't pregnant at all.
  • You're okay though, aren't you? I mean, it's not like you're sick or anything, it could be worse.
and my favourite
  • Maybe you haven't resolved all your own issues with your mother, so you're resisting mothering...
I kid you not.

When I had a miscarriage, the best thing that people could say was 'That is just SO unfair'. Because it IS unfair - as well as depressing, saddening, infuriating, frightening, upsetting etc, but you don't necessarily want to go into all of that with everyone from your best friend to the person who sells you your fruit and vegies.

'Resisting mothering'. Leaves me stuck for words that one does.

I can only presume you two successful parents have completely resolved all issues with your own mothers...
